solar panels costing £160,000 could have to be removed because mains feeder cables cannot handle the power being generated.
The equipment has only recently been installed at 42 bungalows on the Pollyfox Estate at Dodworth, Barnsley, by Berneslai Homes.
Panels have already had to be removed from six homes, and another 23 properties have been identified where cables are unsuitable. Coun Phil Birkinshaw, who represents Dodworth, said: “I’m calling for a full investigation.”
Berneslai Homes blamed the problems on a rush to fit the equipment before the Government reduced feed-in tariff payments for solar panels. That meant they could not carry out proper checks on the electricity network.
