One down, many more to go...
The first weekend of the football season is now in the books and we wonder whether it will set the tone for the rest of the campaign?
History would suggest that winning or losing your first match doesn’t count for a great deal in the grand scheme of things.
However, it did reinforce some aspects we already knew heading into the new season.
Sheffield Wednesday have a strong first 11. They showed that with victory at Brighton. And they also added depth to the squad in the shape of Stevie May.
Sheffield United played well in defeat against Bristol City at home but looked, at times, like a team with several new faces. The Blades will surely improve.
Rotherham grafted hard at Derby County but ultimately fell short. Picking points up at this higher level is the trick the Millers need to learn fast.
Doncaster and Chesterfield had superb away wins at Yeovil and Leyton Orient respectively to show they have good firepower.
Barnsley lost at home against Crawley to keep Danny Wilson under no illusions that he has a tough task at Oakwell.
Of course, everything can change very quickly such is the beauty of football.
