SHEFFIELD’S Mad Man with the Pram is all cued up to raise thousands of pounds for cancer sufferers – after collecting the signatures of snooker stars at the World Championships in Sheffield.

John Burkhill – who has set himself a target to raise £250,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support through his tireless sponsored walking – plans to auction off a snooker cue covered in players’ autographs.

The 73-year-old said Barry Hearn, Ali Carter and Dominic Dale all provided their signatures, alongside other legends of the baize.

John, from Richmond, said: “It’s fantastic. I’ve no idea what these things are worth, but I feel very humble that they think so much about me that they’ve taken the trouble to do this.”

The cue will be auctioned off at the Nabarro charity ball in aid of Macmillan at Sheffield’s Mercure St Paul’s hotel on Saturday, May 26.
