A HISTORIC Sheffield snooker hall is to ring to the sounds of cue on ball again as it prepares to reopen for regular use.

The hall inside Walkley Community Centre, Fir Street, dates back for more than a century and still has some original fittings.

Brett Barker, aged 39, is now planning to open the hall on a trial basis for the next three months on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays as Ace Snooker.

He said: “We are opening on April 13 to tie in with the start of the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible.

“This is an old-time snooker hall, over a century old, but for a time it was disused.”
