Snapshot of city diversity
A NEW exhibition by an international photographer and artist reveals the diverse families living in Sheffield.
The exhibition was commissioned by Sheffield Council and shows how residents from different cultures can lead different lives in houses which look the same.
Inside Out is a collection of portraits of local residents accompanied by interviews about their personal history and feelings about the Page Hall area.
Richard Hanson, a freelance press and editorial photographer based in Sheffield, created the artwork after interviewing and photographing over 20 members of the public in their homes and places of work.
The artist, who lives in Pitsmoor, said: "Because the area is so densely populated neighbours lead semi-public lives. Each yard backs on to another and I photographed a cricket match, a bonsai tree farm and a ferret sanctuary within a couple of hundred yards.
"Yet despite the fact neighbours come from such different backgrounds, almost everyone I spoke to is proud of where they live, and welcomed me into their homes."
The exhibition is at the Pakistani Advice Centre on Page Hall Road, from Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4.30pm.
