Snap happy at big exhibition

BUDDING photographers from Sheffield and Chesterfield are among a group of Northumbria University students who raised more than £5,000 to help stage an exhibition of their work.

Rachel Maloney, aged 24, from Sheffield, and James Laughton, 23, of Chesterfield, are among the final year Contemporary Photographic Practice degree students in London for an exhibition of their final year work at the Association of Photographers Gallery.

Mega pleasure

Growth area

THE language of flowers provides the theme for this year's summer exhibition at Cannon Hall Museum, near Barnsley. Visitors can discover the meanings of flowers and, thanks to a loan from the Trustees of the Cooper Art Gallery, a number of special paintings will be displayed. The exhibition opens on Wednesday and runs until August 31.

Garden delights

CREAM teas and flowers are the order of the day when the Oxspring Open Gardens event takes place on Sunday. There will be 12 gardens open to visitors and all proceeds from the 2.50 entrance fee will go to Macmillan Cancer Support. The event is from 1pm to 5pm a

Church choral

WALDERSHELF Choral Society are visiting Hillsbrough Trinity Methodist Church on Saturday July 12. Tickets are 5 each or 2.50 for children.

Drench a vicar

FAIR visitors can drench a vicar, hook a duck, and buy bric-a-brac in Bakewell on Saturday July 12. Bakewell's Silver Band, bunting and a bouncy castle will also feature at the event at the Medway Centre on Wyedale Close from 10.30am. All funds raised will go to Bakewell Parish Church.

Plot to win

GARDENERS in Barnsley have less than a month to enter an annual contest to find the borough's top plots. The competition is run by Berneslai Homes and is open to all tenants and residents of Barnsley. The closing date for entries is July 31 - call 07976 721892.
