CARING Norma Butterworth bought a bed for her partner ahead of an operation on his knee – which hurt so much he was sleeping on the couch.

But her best-laid plans were smothered by delivery problems at Dreams.

Norma, of Bartholomew Street, Wombwell, paid £598 cash at the Cortonwood store on December 27 and was told it would arrive within 28 days – well before partner Barry Butterworth was due to go under the knife.

A month later they were told it would arrive in three days. But the delivery was cancelled on the day.

And when they enquired in store they were told the system showed it had been delivered.

Norma and Barry complained and visited the store several times. In the end they say a Dreams employee said he was unable to give a delivery date at all.

Norma said: “I decided enough was enough, it was now February 24 – two months after I paid for a bed which should have arrived before Barry’s operation. What a joke.

“Then I was told it would take up to 10 days to get my money back. I was furious.”

Stella Aston is another Dreams customer left with sleepless nights.

She paid £254 for a single bed – called a Panache Slide Sing – on December 7 and when it hadn’t arrived at the end of February she contacted Action Desk.

Stella, aged 80, of Piper Crescent, Longley, said: “I had four missed delivery dates. The first time a wagon came to the door and the driver said we’ve come to deliver a slide. A child’s slide.”

Dreams has been the subject of several complaints in Action Desk since January – but it seems the problems are continuing.

NORMA has her refund and Dreams are chasing her to offer a goodwill payment.

And Stella’s bed was delivered within a day of Action Desk’s call – although it arrived without notice so it was lucky she was in. She was given all her money back.

A Dreams spokeswoman said: “When you highlighted to us the delivery problems Star readers were experiencing a few weeks ago, we set up a dedicated team to deal direct with customers’ issues, should they continue to occur.
