A SUPERMARKET giant is looking to set up shop on the site of a former Sheffield pub.
A planning application has been submitted to transform the Old Cart and Horses Inn in High Green into a convenience store which also houses a hot food takeaway.
Sainsbury’s has confirmed it has earmarked the development for one of its Local line of shops but said plans are being led by pub owners Punch Taverns.
Proposals have been met with opposition from people in the area and Ecclesfield Parish Council.
A spokesman for Sainsbury’s said: “At this time, a date has not been set for the planning committee hearing on this application. Within the overall planned development, it is our understanding that the developers are providing provision within a unit for a hot food takeaway to trade alongside Sainsbury’s.”
