A FURTHER 1,000 tickets are going on sale today for the second leg of Sheffield United’s FA Youth Cup final after an overwhelming reaction from fans.
The club have now increased their allocation five times for the must-see match at Old Trafford, so that around 4,300 loyal Blades can cross the Pennines on Monday.
The new tickets were going on sale at the Bramall Lane box office at 10am. Every seat on 12 coaches booked by the club has been sold.
Sheffield United’s head of operations Dave McCarthy said: “It is clear this fixture has captured the imagination of Blades fans.
“To try and meet demand we have secured a further 1,000 tickets. I’m sure skipper Elliott Whitehouse and his team mates will appreciate the superb visual and vocal backing that our fans will give the team when they enter the Theatre of Dreams.”
The under-18 Blades drew 2-2 with Manchester United’s youngsters in the first leg at Bramall Lane.
Former Sheffield Central MP and ex-sports minister Richard Caborn, a lifelong Blade, sat next to Sir Alex Ferguson during the first leg.
A thrilled Mr Caborn told The Star: “It was a fantastic match. These young lads are a credit to the club and a credit to Sheffield. They more than held their own against what must be the best youth side in the world.
“Ferguson was very impressed. When Callum McFadzean’s fantastic shot went in just before half time he turned to me and said: ‘That’s about as good as it gets.’
“I said to him, ‘you keep your hands off our players’.”
