Singer entertains Sheffield music fans
A RISING star from New York will sing to fans on the steps of Sheffield City Hall tonight as part of the city's Wednesday Night Live initiative.
Dan Torres will play songs from his album Where I Stand from 6pm - having re-scheduled a show in Bath after hearing about Sheffield's late-opening summer scheme on the internet.
"Because the city has such a high profile in the music world at the moment, through the Arctic Monkeys and Richard Hawley, I just thought, 'I have got to be there'," he said. "Sheffield talent has taken my home city of New York by storm recently and I never imagined I'd actually be performing there on a summer evening. But I contacted Creative Sheffield and decided to postpone my gig in Bath to become part of Wednesday Night Live."
Dan will also play the Winter Garden, which stays open until 9pm, alongside Liverpool-based The Random Family and Sheffield acts The Carol Anne Showband and Adam Went.
Brendan Moffet, marketing director of Creative Sheffield, said: "It is brilliant to have such an accomplished artist wanting to perform in Sheffield, and for him to be coming here because he heard about Wednesday Night Live which we only launched last week!"
As well as late night shopping there will be street theatre and activities in the Peace Gardens and special offers at bars and restaurants. Drivers can park for free at John Lewis from 6pm to 8pm.
