Simple Minds Sheffield Arena concert on USB stick

DON'T You Forget About Me hitmakers Simple Minds are making sure fans don't ever forget next month's show at Sheffield Arena.

The entire concert will be available instantly, to take home on the night – on a USB memory stick.

Minutes after the last note has been thrashed, fans will be able to buy an audio recording of the entire performance from the venue merchandise stalls, on Saturday, December 5.

Only the encore will be missing – but even that can be added, with a security code on the concert stick which will allow fans to download the final song online.

Simple Minds, who will perform smash hits like Promised You A Miracle and Alive and Kicking, are also planning to feature sound check only songs on the concert sticks, including rarities that don't get performed during the show. Future plans could include video, artwork, interviews and more.

The 25 USB sticks, storing one gigabyte of space – up to 2.5 hours of music - will be tour branded and packaged in a box. Fans around the world will also be able to order them online, or download all the concert tracks, at www.concert-online.com

Frontman Jim Kerr says the reaction to the concert sticks, which were trialled in Italy, was bordering on "quasi ecstatic."

He said: "Should concert sticks prove successful, we're looking into donating a decent percentage of whatever profits to a Simple Minds affiliated charity."

Bands, including Wet, Wet, Wet have produced live show recordings in the past at Sheffield Arena. But USB sticks can be purchased instantly and make CD and DVD burning redundant, say Germany's leading online music live recording company Concert Online.

Christian Reimann, VP of Marketing and Sales for Concert Online, said: "If you are a committed Simple Minds fan, you'll want to collect the memory sticks from the entire tour. In addition to that, we always try to offer priceless extras."

Support guests, on their Graffiti Soul World Tour, are Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.
