Simon drops in with book prizes for Abigail and pals

PUPILS at a Sheffield school learned all about the joys of reading when a South Yorkshire-born author came to call.

Norton Free Primary pupil Abigail Sendel won a competition run by The Star and the city's libraries service to welcome an author into class for a day.

Simon Rose, now based in Canada, was the special guest and brought in a package of books for Abi - and a second batch for the school library.

The visit was part of a literacy week at the school and Simon talked to the children at assembly.

Headteacher Rob Barron said: "Simon talked about the joy of reading in a humourous way, about how he became an author and about his love of books."
