A silent protest will be held in Sheffield when Sylvester Stallone makes an appearance in the city this month after he attended an event in support of the Israeli Defence Force.

The Hollywood megastar is making his first visit to Sheffield on Sunday January 25 for his only intimate evening event in the UK to talk to fans about his career at the city hall.

Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign is organising the protest on the same night after the Rambo star was a guest at the annual Friends of the Israel Defense Forces gala in Los Angeles last year.

In total £33 million was raised.

A spokesman for the solidarity campaign, which raises money for children’s projects in Gaza, said Mr Stallone had also signed a letter of support for Israel’s right to defend itself.

They added: “This is a defence which demolishes Palestinians’ legitimate homes and protects Israeli settlements on their land, a defence that polices the daily life of Palestinians, imprisoning them at will, including the very young.”

“Sheffield is the first City of Sanctuary and welcomes people of any origin to the safety it can provide.

“Sheffield Council has a strong ethical policy.

“Neither sits well with appearance here of Rambo.”

The protest will take place outside the city hall in front of the war memorial from 7.15pm.
