PARENTS who staged a protest march through a South Yorkshire village against plans to axe two lollipop ladies were today due to present a petition containing hundreds of signatures urging council chiefs to think again.

The mums and dads from Hoyland Common believe youngsters’ safety will be put at risk if the school crossing patrols are lost at Hoyland Road and Sheffield Road in the village.

Barnsley Council is axing the posts - along with a third on Doncaster Road - to save money.
