DOZENS of trains between Doncaster and Sheffield were hit by delays yesterday after a signalling fault hit services.

Network Rail said the problems stemmed from a track circuit failure, near Swinton, which means equipment cannot tell where trains are, and automatically sets lights to red.

The problems started at 7.15am and continued throughout rush hour.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “We apologise for any inconvenience that was caused.”
