THOUSANDS of customers at a Sheffield phone shop are being asked to sign up for a free fire safety scheme which could save lives.
Customers at Carphone Warehouse on Penistone Road will be asked to register for free emails or Tweets from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service to remind them to test their smoke alarms.
The campaign, backed by The Star, was launched after crews were called to dozens of fires in the last three years where the alarm battery was either missing or flat.
Store manager Martin Sapcote said: “We want to offer the best possible service to our customers and that includes making sure when they walk away from our store they are fully connected with a full range of apps and services.
