A WRITING contest to give young South Yorkshire people the chance to show their literary talent has been unveiled.
Firm Civica, which is a platinum sponsor of the annual Off the Shelf literary festival in Sheffield for the second year running, is behind the competition. To celebrate the festival’s 21st year it is asking youngsters to submit a piece of writing on the theme of celebration to win an android tablet PC.
It is also behind a number of free events for schoolchildren at city libraries.
Off the Shelf takes place between October 13 and November 3 with more than 200 events in over 80 venues city-wide.
Guests include Black Diamonds author Catherine Bailey, historian Mike Spick and award-winning actor and director Richard Wilson.
Civica – a specialist systems and business process services firm – will host a number of events including a poetry party with award-winning poet and guest-curator Benjamin Zephaniah at the Lyceum Theatre.
Lee Burley, managing director of Civica’s education division, said: “We are delighted to partner with Off the Shelf Festival 2012.
“It’s fitting that we support schools’ writing and learning ambitions on a nation-wide basis as the festival is continuing to grow and gain national prominence as a forum for ideas and learning.”
