Hundreds of generous Sheffielders have been busy filling shoeboxes to help homeless people at Christmas.
An appeal has been running to support the Cathedral Archer Project, and organisers are hoping to have attracted around 1,000 boxes of clothes, toiletries and provisions.
Organiser Kelly Hawley said the response was ‘overwhelming’.
“I’ve always contributed to appeals for children and I thought one for homeless people could work,” she said. “We’re looking at potentially 1,000 shoeboxes.”
Among those taking part were Sheffield Newspapers’ recruitment advertising team and The Star’s front counter staff.
Donations for four-legged friends have also been accepted as ‘doggy shoeboxes’.
“People have really taken to the idea,” said Kelly, aged 31, from Parson Cross.
