A SCHEME encouraging Rotherham shoppers to use local stores is being made permanent after a six-month trial.
Businesses reported they would like to stay in the scheme and benefit from targeted marketing efforts ensuring shopper loyalty.
Rotherham Council’s Shop Local scheme, trialled for six months, has seen more than 100 businesses participate and over 10,000 people register for a loyalty card.
Council retail investment manager Bernadette Rushton said: “We’ve had a huge response following the launch of Shop Local last July and we know the brand and its basic concept are widely known.
“We want to travel the borough and talk to people even more about the shopping offer we have here in Rotherham town centre and the benefits of shopping locally.
“Businesses have been asked to clearly show and promote their Shop Local offer within store making the scheme as user-friendly as possible.”
Shoppers register for a reward card entitling them to around 100 offers, including money off meals out, entry to clubs and bars, discounts on clothing, beauty treatments and food shopping.
