RED, white and blue flags were on display as traders at Crystal Peaks’ Market Place decked out stalls for an event to mark Armed Forces Day.

Representatives of the Army, Navy and Air Force were invited along to the event, where there was face painting and a fundraising stall set up selling items for wounded troops’ appeal Help for Heroes.

Mick Hanley, from Peaks Shellfish, said: “It makes you feel proud to be British.

“As I walked into work yesterday with all the red white and blue balloons aloft and masses of Union Jack’s plus the special Armed Forces Day flags all over the place, I had a tingle down my spine.

“It was a great day. We booked Becky Cooper, a fantastic local face-painter, to help us celebrate.

“Becky made up children’s faces in differing ways - football colours, animals, palm tree beaches, butterflies - not just the national flag!”
