Shop raided by armed robber

A SUPERMARKET shop assistant was held up by a masked raider wielding a handgun during a frightening robbery.

The robber entered the Co-op supermarket on Wardgate Way, Chesterfield, at around 8.30pm, making off with money and cigarettes.

His face was masked by a balaclava and he pointed what appeared to be a handgun at staff.

The man grabbed cash from the till and cigarettes from the display cabinet before walking out of the shop.

He was wearing a dark-coloured balaclava, gloves, and a thick fleece jacket, as well as blue work trousers and heavy-duty work shoes.

No-one was injured in the robbery, but the supermarket workers were left feeling shaken by the ordeal.

The incident happened on Tuesday.
