A SHOPKEEPER who put mouldy food out for sale in his South Yorkshire store has been ordered to pay £5,500 in fines and costs for 33 separate breaches of food safety laws.
Subash Chabra, who runs Supershop on Dodworth Road, Barnsley, pleaded guilty to selling food that was past its sell-by date, including meat dumplings contaminated with mould.
Officers from Barnsley Council’s regulatory services department spotted the food during an inspection last July.
During an appearance at Sheffield Crown Court Chabra was fined £800 for the mouldy dumplings and £100 per offence for the other 32 breaches, totalling £4,000.
He was also ordered to pay £1,500 towards legal costs. If he does not pay he could be jailed for three months.
