Detectives are keeping an ‘open mind’ over whether a shooting in Sheffield today is linked to a gun attack at a nearby pub last week.
Police were called to Hastilar Road South, Woodthorpe, at 12.45am today after a gun was fired at a house.
A bullet hole could be seen in one of the windows when officers arrived at the crime scene.
Detectives are treating the shooting as a ‘targeted attack’ but are looking for possible links with a gun attack in nearby Richmond Road last Monday.
In that attack, at 10.40pm, shots were fired towards a pub, causing damage to a window.
Detective Inspector John Wheaton, whose team is investigating both incidents, said: “Nobody was injured in either shooting but I fully appreciate how concerning these events will be for local residents and the wider community.
“We are working incredibly hard to identify those involved and we strongly believe that both incidents are targeted towards particular individuals or groups.
“While we are in the early stages of our investigation, there is no suggestion at this time that the shooting this morning is linked to the incident in Richmond Road last week. However, we are keeping an open mind and exploring all lines of enquiry available to us.
“If you hold any information about either incident, or think you can help us locate the individuals involved, please give us a ring or speak to officers within the community.
“I understand that some of you may be reluctant to speak to officers directly, so remember you can call Crimestoppers anonymously and in confidence.”
Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
