Green-fingered residents in Shiregreen are being urged to show off their horticultural talents by entering their gardens into a competition.

The Shiregreen Garden Competition is open to all residents whether their garden is blooming with flowers, overflowing with water features, or packed full of ornaments.

The competition, organised by Shiregreen Community Homes, opens on July 31 and any resident can enter by sending in a photograph of their summer garden.

Last year’s winner was Margaret Hoing, of Sicey Avenue, whose garden was judged as being a place of tranquillity and peace.

Hannah Bailey, neighbourhood partnership manager, said: “Walking around the area you see some beautiful gardens that are certainly award-worthy and it is great that we have the chance to recognise residents’ hard work and creativity.”

To enter send in four photographs showing different angles of the garden to 36a Beck Road, Shiregreen, S5 0GB, or email neighbourhoods@sanctuary-housing.co.uk

Entries must be received by Friday, August 29.
