SHEFFIELD Cathedral has been granted possession of its forecourt – meaning the Occupy Sheffield protest must leave by Monday afternoon.

A hearing at Sheffield County Court this morning granted the possession order effective from 4pm on Monday February 13.

The cathedral took legal action to clear the protest, which set up camp in November, ahead of a development project.

The protest camp has said it is closing down this weekend.

Precentor

I am Canon Precentor at Sheffield Cathedral. Godfrey Smallman of the Sheffield Church Burgesses Trust (godfrey.smallman@wrigleys.co.uk) has sent me this email about the cost of our nativity figures in Sheffield Cathedral. "The scene has been commissioned over a period of years (and is not yet finished). We have spent approximately £2500 on each of the five figures we have so far, plus a smaller amount for the Christ-child." By using money on statues that are only shown from December to Easter in this way and at time when we are claiming the Cathedral Archer Project is short of cash, invoking expensive legal fees when a simple injunction would have sufficed, it would seem the Cathedral can afford to stand our costs and waste diocesal funds quite well. Kind regards, Simon Cowling The Revd Canon Simon Cowling Canon Precentor simon.cowling@sheffield-cathedral.org.uk The Cathedral Church of St Peter and St Paul Church Street Sheffield S1 1HA

I'm horrified that the good people posting here are so short sighted. We should be thanking this 'bunch of drop outs' for standing up for us all, when the rest of us are too fixated on the size of our next pay cheque to risk it. I accept that the Occupy movement may not have changed the world, but it has made politicians take notice and started to turn the tide of public opinion against big business and the banking sector. If you truly think we live in a fair society then fair enough, give them abuse for making a mess or whatever it is you think they've done wrong. But if not, ask yourself why you're not doing anything about it yourself.

4 LennyU, - yep the banks F-'d up royally, but before the world downturn financial institutions in the UK paid £53b in tax - that pays for armed forces and courts and police. If these thick no-marks cathedral dwellers want to protest about anything they should consider the £163 Brown and Liebour borrowed during the boom years 2003-08 when we should have put money aside. And lets not forget the public sector dinosaur Liebour created that is now a cancer eating away at hard working tax payers.

Most normal hard working people are not happy with the banks and whats gone of but most of the people I know are also as unhappy about the scrounging benefit scum that also cost us millions billions per year. I for one am sick of it, I hate the banks and I hate the low life scum that camp outside the cathedral as everyone of them is able to do that because WE THE TAXPAYERS fund them. Over time the banks will pay us back and I don't think we will ever see them get as out of control as they were again (you have to blame Labour for allowing it and encouraging it) but the low life scrubbers that choose a life on benefits and then try to lecture us like this dick @ number 4 really bug me BUT I take great pleasure in knowing that their free loading life is at an end There's no cash left and benefit cuts will be coming like it or not so swallow the tablet "Wolfie Smith" and go and get a job. ou know its a glaring example of whats wrong with this country on one side of the street you have the banks who dont give a dam and the other you have this filthy lot free loading it and guess what you and me walking up the middle shelling out our cash for the lot of them SCUM

Good. If they leave any of their mess behind at the Cathedral then drag them back from their falling to bits squat and make them eat it.
