SHEFFIELD Woman of Steel Ruby Gascoigne is special guest on BBC Radio Four’s Woman’s Hour tomorrow - talking about the new book about her life.

The 89-year-old will talk about her years toiling in the steel mills of Sheffield in World War Two, which she recalls in A Woman Of Steel.

Ruby, born in Darnall in 1922, was one of thousands of South Yorkshire women conscripted into the factories in World War Two.

The Star’s Women of Steel campaign saw Ruby, Dorothy Slingsby, Kit Solitt and Kathleen Roberts, win - with a statue to be built in their honour in Sheffield.
