A 74-year-old woman has been left fighting for her life in hospital after a collision on Sheffield’s outer ring road.

The pensioner was struck on the northbound carriageway as she crossed 60 metres after the junction with Hollinsend Road, Intake.

She suffered multiple broken bones in the collision just after 2pm yesterday.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman sustained life-threatening injuries when she was in collision with a Skoda Fabia.

“Officers understand the Skoda moved into the outside lane of the dual carriageway to overtake another vehicle.”

The force said that the pensioner had suffered multiple fractures. She is being treated in the Northern General Hospital.
