A Facebook event advertising a number of free water parks in cities across the UK - including Sheffield - has now been removed from the site for 'violating standards.'

Over two thousand Sheffielders had said they were going to the August event which had been created by SafariWaterpark Tour UK - whose Facebook page has also since been deleted.

It promised to cordon off an area of the Steel City for a fun-fuelled day of flumes, rapids and slides.

However, many were sceptic about whether or not the event could be pulled off and a Sheffield City Council spokesperson said that it had not received any applications for the park to be licenced.

Councils in Manchester and Liverpool also confirmed that no similar applications had been received.

The Facebook event didn't provide any contact details for the organisers of the planned water extravaganza - with no phone number or company name or address listed on the site.

The water park tour has been likened to a similar scam concerning a Total Wipeout Tour of the UK, which promised to bring the popular obstacle circuit to a number of cities across the country later this year.

They were also deleted from Facebook after it turned out to be fake.
