STEPPING out at the national stadium with your team is what every sporting mascot dreams of.
However, for Sheffield United’s Captain Blade, the magic of the occasion could be marred by a wardrobe malfunction - unless supporters answer his call for help.
The pirate was mobbed by fans who invaded the pitch after the final whistle at Bramall Lane on Monday night, as the Blades secured a spot in the League One play-off final.
After emerging from the crowd, he discovered one of the tassled epaulettes which sits on the shoulder of his jacket was missing.
Post-match searches of the pitch were unsuccessful and he now believes the missing piece of the garment could still be in the clutches of a Blades fan.
Captain Blade has now launched an appeal to get the lost epaulette back ahead of United’s big game against Huddersfield Town at Wembley on Saturday, May 26.
He said: “I was on the pitch with the team and the next thing I knew there was this big charge,
“When I got back inside afterwards I looked at my costume and one of the epaulettes had come off.
“I had a look around on the pitch afterwards, but I couldn’t see it anywhere.
“It’s not going to look good with one odd shoulder. I only have one outfit and it would be impossible to get a replacement before Wembley.
“Someone might have taken it with them, or got hold of it by accident and I just want to ask them to hand it back over. I don’t want to go there looking scruffy, I want to look my best when we go up.”
A Blades spokesman said: “We need fans to help us. We are looking for a hero to step forward and help get Captain Blade looking his best for the club’s big day.”
