Sheffield United auctions raise cash for worthy causes

Two charities have benefitted from the generosity and deep pockets of supporters of Sheffield United Football Club.

The Blades auctioned off the match ball from last month’s derby game against Barnsley following the Movember Prostate Cancer Awareness Week.

The auction raised £501 for the Movember Foundation, which funds programmes involved in prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health.

Sporting impressive moustaches for Movember, Mal Brannigan, Sheffield United’s managing director and Liam Robinson, the club’s commercial director, handed over the cheque to Jonathan Davies, owner of Savills Barbers on Devonshire Street, city centre, and bespoke British fashion designer John Lancaster.

The club has also raised £5,000 after auctioning special poppy shirts worn by the players.

United worked with local firm Pinders to create a giant poppy on the Kop at the Barnsley game, following which all the 18 special poppy shirts were auctioned.

The generosity of Blades fans meant thousands of pounds were raised for the Royal British Legion.
