SHEFFIELD’S triumphant rugby league players got the full civic reception treatment after their championship win.

Players from the Sheffield Eagles, along with club staff and directors, were greeted at Sheffield Town Hall by the Lord Mayor, Coun John Campbell, to celebrate winning the championship grand final.

The reception comes after similar ceremonies this year for Sheffield Wednesday Football Club after winning promotion to the Championship, Olympic heptathlon gold medallist Jessica Ennis, and Wimbledon men’s doubles champion Jonny Marray.

Coun Campbell said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for rugby league in the city.

“I’m hoping to see them grow from strength to strength.”
