A SHEFFIELD branch of The Carphone Warehouse has become the first business to back a fire service campaign.

Staff at the Penistone Road store will ask every customer who buys a phone to register for free reminders to test their smoke alarms to reduce the number of deaths and injuries in house fires.

Martin Sapcote, store manager, said: “We want to offer the best service to our customers and that includes making sure when they leave our store they are connected with a full range of services.

“It makes perfect sense to get customers to sign-up for these reminders.”
