A new convenience store has been granted permission to sell alcohol, despite protests.

Tesco applied for a premises licence for its new shop on Sharrow Lane, on the former St John’s Church site.

Alcohol will be sold between 7am and 11pm. No beer, cider or lager over 5.5 per cent volume can be sold without the approval of police.

More than 30 protesters signed a petition.
