Sheffield Steeldogs are planning to pay tribute to an eight-year-old ice hockey fan killed by a flying puck while watching a game in France.

Hugo Vermeersch has been watching the Dunkirk Corsaires play Reims when the accident occurred.

A statement by the Steeldogs said the South Yorkshire club had built up links with the Dunkirk team after holding a pre-season tour of France.

It said: “We will look at ways to pay a fitting tribute to Hugo but for now we want to express our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and everyone within the Corsaires organisation.”
