A SLICE of Spanish life was brought to Sheffield as a restaurant went all out to raise cash for charity.

Scenes resembled Spain’s annual La Tomatina festival as staff from Ecclesall Road’s La Tasca immersed themselves in a bath of squashed tomatoes to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice in Whirlow.

Employees took it in turns to spend two hours in the tub being drenched with the fruit to coincide with the annual Spanish celebration, which also took place yesterday. The event sees residents of a town near Valencia pelt each other with 240lbs of tomatoes.

Passers-by put their hands in their pockets to donate to the hospice in recognition of the La Tasca team’s bravery.
