A robber who targeted almost 40 properties in Ecclesall Road area of Sheffield has started a six-year prison sentence.
Gareth Daniel Ward, 36, of Holland Road, stole phones, game consoles and laptops as well as cash and bankcards, which he fraudulently used to buy goods and withdraw cash from victims’ accounts.
Sheffield Crown Court heard on Friday how he entered homes through open doors and windows between December 2015 and March this year, using stolen cards to take £400 from a cash machine, buy sports goods and top up his mobile phone. .
Ward, caught after police recognised him from CCTV stills, was convicted of six burglaries and asked for 33 other offences to be taken into consideration by the court.
During sneak-in raids, Ward picked up victim’s keys and drove off in a Vauxhall Corsa from Stalker Lees Road, 125cc Honda motorbike from Alderson Road and Mercedes C350 Sport from Meadow Terrace.
DC Mark Wilkinson, officer in charge of the investigation, said: “Burglary is a crime which understandably leaves many victims frightened and upset.
“I would urge people to always lock doors and windows, even when in the home, so not to fall prey to opportunistic thieves like Ward.
“Thankfully we are able to recover some of the stolen property and return it to its rightful owners.”
