Sheffield traders are gearing up for an increase in business when the city’s Christmas lights are switched on later this month.
Musicians, choirs, street entertainers, children’s characters and pantomime performers starring in this year’s production of Aladdin at the Lyceum Theatre will be entertaining crowds on Sunday, November 22 ahead of the official switch-on at 5.30pm in the Peace Gardens.
Councillor Julie Dore, leader of Sheffield City Council, said: “The theme will be a traditional Christmas, with a focus on the Christmas tree in front of the Town Hall.
“The city centre will be illuminated to add some sparkle through to New Year.
“The Christmas market will also be open, giving opportunities to buy that unusual gift and also festive food and drink.”
This year’s Christmas market will open on Friday, November 13.
