two Sheffield schools have formed a new ‘alliance’ to help achieve further improvements and excellence.

King Ecgbert School, in Dore, and Newfield School, in Norton Lees, have joined forces in a ‘co-operative learning partnership.’

Lesley Bowes, King Ecgbert headteacher, will become executive headteacher at both sites and assume overall responsibility for performance from January.

The former Fir Vale School headteacher said: “As someone who has had the privilege of leading and securing the improvement of two city schools, it is an honour to be asked to lead this partnership.

“My first priority is to connect with parents and the school community, for it is only by working in partnership our students will reach their potential.

“Effective partnership, ambition, first-class provision and hard work from all of us will ultimately secure sustainable school improvement at Newfield and ensure our aspirations for every young person become a reality.”

It has been pledged that each school will maintain its individual ethos and characteristics in the partnership.

Tim Eldridge, formerly senior deputy headteacher at King Ecgbert, is to become headteacher at Newfield. Newfield has been without a permanent headteacher since Dr Sue Bains left in July to take a career break.

He said he was ‘delighted’ with the appointment.

Mr Eldridge said: “I know it is an improving school and has the potential to perform highly.

“The senior leadership team of the school has been strengthened with the addition of new appointments.

“By working in partnership with King Ecgbert, I am sure that Newfield will go from strength to strength.”

The terms of the partnership have been agreed and adopted by the governing bodies at both schools.

Ed Wyndebach, Newfield chairman of governors, said: “We believe it will lead to increased levels of success.”
