FIVE-TIME Olympic gold medallist Sir Steve Redgrave showed awed youngsters how to get sporty in a visit to a Sheffield school.
The retired rower called in to Prince Edward Primary School, City Road, Manor, to take part in an afternoon of sports and talk about his experiences at the games.
He also watched as youngsters received certificates in teamwork and other values appreciated by sports people in an assembly.
Matt Sieczkarek, deputy headteacher, said: “We were absolutely delighted Sir Steve visited us.
“It is an honour to have a five-times gold medallist coming to the school - the children were thrilled. It was a big day for our school.”
Sir Steve’s visit was organised through the Matalan Sporting Promise, which supports sport and PE activity in schools. It provides training and resources for teachers in primary education and also focuses on young people who may not want to take up traditional mainstream sports.
