A sailor from Sheffield has been rewarded for her years of service to the sport.

Josie Gentry, of Deepcar, has been chosen by the Royal Yachting Association to receive a RYA Regional Award.

David Staniforth, chairman of the RYA Yorkshire and Humber region, congratulated Josie on winning the prestigious award.

He said: “Her personal efforts have enabled many people over the past three decades to find success and enjoyment in the sport of dinghy sailing.

“Josie has been a long standing member at Pennine Sailing Club where she and her late husband first became involved in youth sailing.

“Her tireless work nationally with the National Schools Sailing Association and Yorkshire and Humberside Youth Sailing Association is both recognised and respected nationwide.”

The awards will be presented by Princess Anne, president of the RYA, at a ceremony in London on Friday, November 21.

The RYA is the national body for all forms of boating.
