ROMANTIC Rob McPherson proved his girlfriend really is the light of his life - by writing the words ‘Marry Me’ in a torch beam and capturing the glowing results on camera.
Rob, aged 31, of Burngreave, Sheffield, proposed to 26-year-old Catherine Moore using the light from a torch and a very slow exposure on his camera.
The Sheffield Council support officer popped the question by drawing the letters in light - while nursery chef Catherine waited unbeknowns behind the lens.
Rob said: “I asked Catherine to operate the camera as I wrote out the words using the torch. She couldn’t tell what I’d written until the picture came up on the back of the camera. And I’m pleased to say she said yes!”
Rob chose the magical surroundings of the restored gardens at Brodsworth Hall near Doncaster for his big moment.
The gardens are being brought to life with light and music every night until Sunday as part of an atmospheric ‘son-et-lumière’ spectacular called Enchanted Garden.
“I got the idea from a low-light photography project I’ve been working on,” said Rob. “And the Enchanted Garden provided the perfect setting as it looked fantastic in the photograph, and it’s an event we both love.”
Event manager Jon Hogan said: “We’ve always known the Enchanted Garden provides an incredibly romantic setting for our visitors, but a couple getting engaged at the event is a first!
“We’re really thrilled for Rob and Catherine, and wish them all the best.”
