Sheffield’s new city centre market is already 90 per cent full with five months to go until it opens in November.
Traders who successfully applied for a stall have now received their offer letter through the post.
In total 85 stall applications have been successful – 64 from Castle Market and 21 businesses that will be new to the market when it opens on The Moor.
Enough traders applied to fill the new hall one and a half times which meant some did not get a place in the new hall.
But the key areas of local and specialist foods were under represented and market managers are now focusing their efforts to find more traders in these areas.
Sheffield Council leader Julie Dore said: “For the market to be 90 per cent full at this stage is excellent and we are on target for the opening in November.”
Cafes were the most over-subscribed with 30 applications for 12 units. Clothing and miscellaneous items were also over-represented.
