A major Sheffield road was closed last night while police officers staged a reconstruction of a collision.

Penistone Road was closed near to B&Q in Hillsborough.

South Yorkshire Police said it was a 'planned closure of the road while officers carried out a collision reconstruction'.

The force has not yet revealed which collision was the subject of the reconstruction, but it was carried out close to a junction where a man died after a collision with a police car in January.

Leslie Bingham, aged 73, of Rivelin Bank, Walkley, died after he was struck by a Vauxhall Astra police patrol car near a crossing at the junction of Penistone Road and Bradfield Road at 6.20pm on Saturday, January 7.

He was on his way to meet relatives who had gathered at the Owlerton Greyhound Stadium restaurant to celebrate his granddaughter Katie’s 21st birthday.

South Yorkshire Police said the car involved was 'on routine patrol' at the time.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating.

In inquest into the death has been opened and adjourned pending further enquiries.
