PLANS for a rail depot to handle deliveries of aggregate for Sheffield’s £2 billion Streets Ahead contract to repair roads and footpaths are set to be approved.
The development, which would create 30 jobs, is set to take place next to the former Tinsley Marshalling yards, off Europa Way, proposed by Aggregate Industries.
Sheffield Council’s planning officials are recommending the scheme is approved at a meeting of the council’s city centre, south and east planning board on Monday.
Some 24 objections have been made from Brinsworth residents and Brinsworth Parish Council over noise and pollution, plus the number of trucks driving to and from the site.
But the council says the scheme will reduce overall environmental impact of Streets Ahead by ensuring as much stone for the project as possible is brought into the city by rail instead of road.
