Sheffield’s Great Pie and Peas Up champions are back - and this time they’re aiming for a bigger and better event!

The Royal Hotel at Dungworth were the hosts of the most successful supper in The Star’s campaign to help St Luke’s Hospice last year, raising £1,406 towards a new inpatient unit.

And now plans are under way for the pub’s 2014 pie and peas party on March 21 – with organisers planning to smash their own record and retain their title as the top supporters.

“We had a great night last year and it was the perfect event for us because we pride ourselves on our pies at The Royal Hotel,” said licensee David Lambert.

“As well as serving some great food we had an auction and quiz, so it made a really good night out, and this year we think it will be even bigger and better.”

David added: “We’ll be asking local businesses to support us with auction prizes, and because we anticipate this year’s event being even more successful, we’re asking people to book their places well in advance to avoid disappointment.”

The Star has pledged to raise £100,000 to pay for one of 14 single rooms at the Whirlow hospice’s new £5 million inpatient wing.

Readers are being urged to host their own pie and pea suppers any time during March, asking guests for a minimum suggested donation of £10 per guest.

Everybody who registers receives a full pack with invitations, a poster, placemats and even a set of quiz questions.

Events can be held in homes, offices, workplaces, pubs, restaurants and community centres.

Champion fundraisers like The Royal Hotel are also in line to win specially commissioned certificates designed by Sheffield artist Jim Connolly.
