PUTTING the protection of Sheffield’s health services high on the agenda was the mission of protesters who interrupted a meeting.
An army of patients and NHS workers lobbied members of the city’s new Clinical Commissioning Group, the body which will be responsible for the provision of community health services, outside offices in Darnall yesterday.
Members of Sheffield Save Our NHS presented the GP-led board with a petition containing more than 3,000 signatures to prevent of the privatisation of healthcare.
Jon Ashe, one of the organisers of the Sheffield petition, said: “We’re seriously concerned about the dangers of the new Health and Social Care Act. Huge numbers of people want to safeguard the NHS.
“If people act together now, we can put a stop to privatisation.”
