Protesters will make a minute’s noise to demonstrate against the staging of the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
The event, staged by LGBT Sheffield, will coincide with the opening ceremony of the games and takes place in Barker’s Pool from 5.30pm tomorrow.
The games have come under fire, with activists leading protests across the world, because of Russia’s controversial laws on homosexuality.
A spokesman for LGBT Sheffield said: “We are holding the demonstration to protest against the Olympics being held in a country where LGBT people are subjected to persecution and Government-led hatred and oppression.”
He said the Olympic ideals of joy in effort, the value of a good example and respect for universal ethical principles were ‘incompatible’ with the country.
