A Sheffield police officer is to face court after being charged with domestic assault.

Richard Whitham, 35, who is a PC based at Moss Way Police Station in Sheffield, is to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with two counts of common assault.

South Yorkshire Police said he has been suspended from duty since being charged earlier this year with the offences.

A spokesman said: “The charges relate to an alleged off-duty, domestic incident on February 22 this year in Sheffield.

“When the allegations came to light he was placed on restricted duties. He was suspended from his position when he was charged on April 16.”
