For one Sheffield couple, Valentine’s Day will be more than the usual day of chocolates, hearts and flowers – as they tie the knot on the most romantic day of the year.
Beth Dewsnip and 36-year-old Wylie Tuffnell will say ‘I do’ today at Sheffield Town Hall in front of their family and friends.
However, the choice of Valentine’s Day as their wedding day is more of necessity than romance.
The pair both work in retail and found it difficult to get time off together.
Beth, aged 25, who works for Debenhams, said: “It should be a more romantic reason, but it was the only week I could get off work!”
The couple met through work and mutual friends, but the timing was not right as Wylie was already married.
Little did Beth know he was her future husband – and four years later they began dating.
However, the couple split after about a year after thinking that maybe they were just friends after all.
Beth said: “We were good friends from the beginning and just thought it was not right at that moment.
She said: ““A couple of years later though, we realised we did want to be with each other and got back together.
“I think he was secretly in love with me for years before we got together properly.”
Eight months later the pair, of Loxley, got engaged after Tesco employee Wylie joked they should go to Gretna Green and get married.
Beth said: ““We were in London for work and he joked while we still had a few days left we should get married.
“When we got back to Sheffield we were sitting on the sofa and he asked me again to get married.
“We went to Meadowhall the next day and got a ring and were finally engaged.”
After the wedding, the newlyweds will be heading to Liverpool for a Beatles-themed weekend at The Hard Day’s Night Hotel in honour of Wylie’s love of music.
“They are planning a longer honeymoon in Cyprus later in the year.
