PENSIONERS are being urged to ensure they have this season’s winter flu vaccination by Sheffield MPs.
Meg Munn, Labour MP for Sheffield Heeley, was among politicians supporting an NHS campaign to encourage people aged over 65 to have the jab.
Last year, 76 per cent of people over 65 and 52.1 per cent of people in other vulnerable groups had the jab in Sheffield – higher than the national averages of 74 per cent for the over 65s and 51.6 per cent for other groups.
Ms Munn said: “The seasonal flu vaccination is important to help protect those people who are more susceptible to serious complications or even death from flu.
“I would encourage all those over the age of 65 or in one of the ‘at risk’ groups to visit their surgeries and get vaccinated.”
Dr George Kassianos, of the Royal College of GPs, said “Despite the relatively mild flu season last year, people should remember flu remains a serious threat, particularly for those aged over 65 or with medical conditions.”
